Fun fun fun!us

Today was so much fun! I don't have enough time to elaborate but here is the gist... Started out great by being able to share my testimony on the examples of Nephi, Joseph Smith and Christ in my life. Sunday School was on the Plan of Salvation and Relief Society was on the life of Joseph Smith and it was all in Spanish. I felt like a missionary again! I loved it!!! They would say which scripture we were going to read and since I was using my mission scriptures i was able to turn right to the page because i still have them color coded by lesson and topic. It was wonderful! Also our manager who hasn't been to the whole 3 hours of church in YEARS came today and enjoyed it. after church there was a pot luck lunch at Lindquist beach but before we could go we had to go pick someone up. We got to his house and walked in and he was smoking a bong. SO gross but totally legal here in the islands. at the beach there were all kinds of people. one drunk gay man kissed me on the mouth, looked at my burned cleavage and tried to set me up with some guy he was flirting with. what an adventure. this beach was absolutely incredible though. the best one that we have been to. it was so beautiful. everyone was totally concerned for me and my sunburn though. whenever i showed any part of it they would all just look at me and start talking amongst themselves. i look like a lobster. so funny! but at least i am not in pain anymore. it was such a fun day full of lots of laughs and it is so fun being able to be examples to all the people here. they were all just sitting on the beach drinking and talking and we got the party started by playing football and frisbee and it got people more happy. we hope that they can learn from us while we are here that you don't have to drink to have fun. what an interesting day. i loved it! this place is crazy but i guess that is why i fit in so well.

Sick day

I was so ready to go to work and sport my new du but when i was in the shower i started getting super light headed and i thought that i was going to throw up. i got out as soon as i could and went to my room. i walked past my roommates and they told me how yellow my face was. I don't know what is wrong but i just can't stand for very long with out feeling light headed and shaky. So i took the day off of work. I slept midnight to 8am then showered and slept from 9 to noon. i woke up for a little bit then fell back to sleep from 1 to 4 and finally got up to eat. We are thinking that my body is just in shock from my sunburn. Lucky for me there were no ships that were in harbor so it was way slow at work and they didn't need me. So tonight I am having a movie night with myself. We had been planning all week to go to salsa dancing night at a local club but i don't think that would be the best place for me in my condition. Hopefully I will be able to work tomorrow. Being sick is no fun.
So I decided that i would post more pictures from our fun day so i can realize that being sick is totally worth it because it was so fun!

"Team Building"

Having way too much fun!

So our boss decided last night at around 10:30pm that us interns needed a team building activity at Sapphire Beach today. He got us all out of work and we left for the beach instead of work today. There weren't any ships in port so it made for a slow day anyways. We got there and as i was walking to the beach i guess i dropped my sunscreen and all the other girls had was tanning oil. so i lathered up and layed out. we were there for a about 4 hours. it was a blast! We played football, some went swimming and some got their hair braided. I officially look like a tourist. it hurt SUPER bad for them to put it in but at least they will last a while. We had a great time and mad friends with an Iguana. he was super big! After we left the beach I was already in pain from the burn. when we got home we saw the damage. HAHA I hope this will be my last burn of the summer. We will see I guess.
Tonight I made Hawaiian chicken and we are now enjoying it and watching so you think you can dance. I love my life!

Vagisil

Alright...So i bet you are all nervous by that title... don't worry, it is not as bad as you think. My mosquito bites have been driving me crazy and I am officially poor and have no money to go and buy stuff to take care of them. I was looking through my toiletries and I found an old tube of Vagisil. On the tube it states that it is an anti itch cream. PERFECT!! Just what I need. It is a bit unconventional but I thought that I would try it seeing that it is my only hope. guess what? It totally helps!!! I felt so silly carrying around a tube of Vagisil in my purse all day but at least I wasn't in pain. my purse is kinda small and today it seemed to have many things inside it today so it wouldn't close completely. On my lunch break i was walking to the warehouse to pick up my can of tuna fish and crackers. i was almost there when a VERY good looking guy asked me if i was one of the other intern's friends. i talked with him for a little while then i looked down and noticed that the Vagisil was on the top of my purse and completely visible. SO embarrassing. what a great way to make a good first impression. I think he totally wants me now. Moral of the story.... Use Vagisil for mosquito bites only if you have a large purse and if not leave it at the house... or just save and emergency fund to buy normal anti itch cream.

Day 2

So I totally forgot to tell you a funny story from yesterday. We got home from church and we had padlocked our front door. None of us had our keys because our regional manager was going to use them while we were at church so he could come in and use our washer and dryer. he accidently left them at home so we were locked out. Brian(our regional manager) showed us that there was a way to get up onto the balcony by climbing up onto it. it was pretty tricky but it was even more tricky since we were all in skirts. it was so funny to watch each of us girls try to climb up into the balcony. Guess you had to be there...
We were picked up by Brian today at 6:15 am and were taken down to the stores to have a tour. From the time i left the house til we actually started work I ended up with 10 mosquito bites on my legs alone. the bugs love me down here i guess... hopefully none of them have west nile :) We had our first staff meeting and got to meet everyone that works down here. there are 4 interns and 12 local employees. two local employees run the outlet store, 4 of us at the Del Sol Waterfront store, 4 at that Cariloha store and the rest are at the grand Del Sol store. it is so chill in the store. the people are SO nice. we had a blast in the store. i love talking to people and showing them our products. i love that our product sells itself so i can just be myself in the store and with the people that come in. We had a goal to sell $2000 in our store alone and we did it. it was fun reaching our goal and it will be fun to see if we can reach that goal tomorrow. We had so much fun that we were playing ball and frisbee in the store as well as joking around with the kids and adults. i loved it! I can't believe i will be paid to do this all summer.
after work we went grocery shopping...HOLY COW is it expensive to buy food down here! i couldn't believe how little $83 could buy. 8 cans of tuna, a box of nila wafers, honey bunches of oats, ritz, trail mix, two bottles of salad dressing, jam, a bag of frozen peas and carrots and a bag of chicken tenders. thats it! CRAZY! i guess i won't be eating too much while i am here. at least it will help me look good in a swim suit. at the store we TOTALLY stuck out. we were the only white people in the store. it was sweet! and when i was being rung up i started to have a conversation with two of the baggers. they were deaf. they were so excited to have someone new to talk to. they went out of their way to help us with a ton of stuff. it was really neat at this store because the baggers always help you out to your car. it made me feel like i was in the good old days that i wasn't alive for.
we were able to enjoy the bachelor and dancing with the stars while we had our dinner. It was Alyse's turn to cook tonight and she made taco soup. it reminded me of sister hoggan and the soup she would make for us in the mission. so great! Well I can't wait to start another day tomorrow...time to sleep!

St Thomas!

I MADE IT!!! I am so excited that I am finally here! The day of travel was the longest i have ever had. We started in SLC at 5 AM after staying up all night packing. then we flew to Dallas and had an 1 hr 1/2 layover. There we ate McDonald's for breakfast.  Then it was off to Miami. We had had a 2 hr layover there. We had dinner in a Cuban restaurant. So yummy! In the airport everywhere we turned there were people speaking Spanish. It made me so excited for the summer. then we headed off to St Thomas. When we arrived we got to walk down the cool stairs off of the plane onto the runway. We got in at 8pm and it was very dark outside. All we could see of the island was lights everywhere. We walked to get our bags and there were people welcoming us and offering rum shots. at first we thought it was like a fruit juice and a couple of us almost took it before we heard what it was. We went out side to look for our ride. We had many people asking us if we wanted to take a taxi. they were very persistent and had great accents. We waited and waited and waited for our ride. one hour went by then two. it even started raining at one point. finally we got ahold of someone at corporate in Utah and they got ahold of our regional manager. he totally thought that we were going to be coming in the next day. he told us that he was on his way. finally 3 hours after landing we arrived at our new apartment. there had been male interns living there before us that had left the same day. our manager was planning on cleaning the next day so needless to say. it was a mess! we arrived at around 11:30 pm and we cleaned til 3am. it is still a little dirty but at least now it is livable. We finally went to bed and woke up at 8 for church. the church is a cute little trailer that has little folding separators to make the different rooms. there are about 20 people in the branch and 4 missionaries. two elders and two sisters. They are a little branch but there are a few spanish speakers so they have made a spanish group that arrives after the english sacrament and has their classes and when our church is done they have their sacrament. the branch president said that they will need help with it so i hope to get a calling in the spanish group! I can't wait to go on splits with the sisters and feel like a missionary again! Maybe my Spanish will get better after all. After church we were so incredibly tired that all we wanted to do was sleep. We had to go pick up our rental car. and we had to put it in my name and on my card since the company hadn't set up an account for it yet. so i got to be the one to drive home on the wrong side of the road! it was super fun! It is crazy that turning right is the hard one to do now. When we got home i made some pink pancakes and then we all slept for 4 hours. it was a great day and it is beautiful here! I can't wait to go to work tomorrow for my first day of work!   and after hopefully get to go to the beach. The adventure will be great!

More Zoo pics

Here are the cute pics that Adam's mom took from our first trip to the zoo. The video was meant to be of Claire growling a lot at the polar bear like she had been doing but I guess she had had enough

The zoo!

We love going to the zoo. We have been two times now. The first was with Lincoln, Adam and his mom. The second was Lincoln, Claire and my friend Pam. Both times were so much fun. It is not the best zoo in the world but it is fun to get out and do something different. The picture of Claire sitting is so funny because she wouldn't let me put her down all day then we saw a pond with big fish and ducks and she was so excited to sit as close as she could and watch the fish. She is so cute. She also loved watching Lincoln feed the fish some of his peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Mmmm just what those animals need...

Me and my box car Pinky!

So I got the chance to go on an adventure to Florida. Before going I spent 3 days just Lincoln and I since Dan and Leslie had to get to Florida before us for work. It was fun being with him all the time. He is so well mannered and hilarious! I can't believe that this was his first time being away from his parents because he didn't cry for them once. He is only three and he just got it that they were in a different state and that he wouldn't see them til we went to meet them. I am such a scaredy cat though. Dan's house is about 30 years old and it is SO noisy at night. I could have sworn that people were breaking it and doing who knows what. I would just sit in my bed trying to get myself to not be scared. At about the time that I had totally freaked myself out, Lincoln came down needing a new sippy. I was SO glad. I had him hop into my bed and protect me for the rest of the night. For some reason, all three nights right before I was about to hop into bed, he would come down and save me from all the scary monsters. So funny that our brains can be calmed by the simplest things. Kinda funny that a three year old is all I need to feel protected.
We got to Florida and I was so excited to see all of the amusement parks even though I knew that I wasn't going to go to any of them. I just liked that I was so close. We went to our condo in Daytona Beach aka White trash town. We stayed at a beautiful condo on the beach that had incredible sunsets everynight. The condo had a mini golf coarse that Lincoln LOVED. He wanted to play it all the time. Today (5 days later) he said to me in the car."Aunt Lizzie...me want to go to one of our other houses. Me want to go back to our Florida house so that me can play golf." So cute.
The highlight of the trip was our 5k that Dan and I ran. We decided since there was nothing to do in Daytona Beach that we would go down to the racetrack. We found out that two days later there would be a 5k so we signed up. I hadn't brought any running shoes with me so we had to go shopping. We drove to Orlando and went shopping at the best outlet store I have ever been to. it was like heaven! I found these reall cute pink and red shoes in the Nike store and tried them on and they were great. I went up to pay for them and the lady asked me, "what size were you hoping these were? They are in the wrong box. These are childrens size." I was so shocked. But it was great because they were $10 cheaper because they were kids. Now I know to shop in a childrens 6 instead of a 8 womans. Now I was ready to run! The day of the race started really early in the morning. We left at 6 to get there are 7. There were a whole bunch of people already there. We saw a man in his racing Budwiser jacket, total red neck, and we walked behind him raight as he said to his kid, "Billy you get up here before I put my foot in your butt!" Dan and I laughed so hard and we knew right then that it was going to be a great day. The night before Dan and I had made these awesome box cars to hold as we ran around the track. We figured that it was our first time on a Nascar track so we might as well feel as if we are racing a car around it. We were the only ones that were smart enough to do so. Before the race we took pics of us on the finish line then got ready to run. Dan decided last minute that he wanted to see how well he could do so he ditched his car(lame idea). I ran the whole way around the 2.8 mile racetrack holding up my little pink car. It was a good incentive because I wasn't just another runner. People noticed me and cheered me on so I couldn't let them down by just stopping to walk. So I was able to jog the whole way and finish with a time of 33.12 minutes. It felt great. I am still sore from it but I am glad to know that I can do it. I love being spontaneous! Who would ever think that I would run a 5k on a racetrack? Not me!
We decided that instead of spending the $78 to go to Disney World with kids that are too young to remember it, that we would go to Disney Downtown then go shopping. It was a great idea. This way we were able to buy things that we could take home with us and still get a taste of Disney. I love being cheap!
On the flight home I was SO tired that I put on Toy Story for Lincoln then fell asleep on my tray table. I woke up to someone poking me. it was the lady sitting next to me. Lincoln had followed my example and fallen asleep too but instead of just sitting there sleeping, he was doing the head bob right into the metal armrest. Wow...what a great nanny I am. It sure was a fun trip! Thanks Dan and Leslie!!!
